Eumundi Markets

I love Markets. All the variety and choice. The enthusiasm that the sellers have for their products. I love it and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy those little tasters too. Last weekend I was up in Brisbane visiting my very best friend (vbf). Bright and early on the Saturday morning we headed off to Eumundi Markets. It took about an hour and half to drive there which meant there was plenty of catching up done en route. This is easily one of the biggest markets I have ever been to. There seemed to be hundreds of stalls. You could easily get lost. In fact we did a couple of times. But since we were just lapping up the market atmosphere it really didn't matter. The market had a great mix of foods and crafts and I went mad buying lots of lovely things all in the guise of presents but who was I kidding - I was going to be the happy recipient of most of these purchases.

At one stall we got chatting to a guy who was selling a number of curry pastes. He had a great sales pitch and before we knew it we all had a jar of the Masaman curry paste. he sold us on his description of roast beef or lamb with masaman curry paste and brown sugar smothered all over. Apparently it caramelises and forms a delicious crunchy layer. I'll have to try it out and write about it.

I also picked up some trail mix for snacking on in work, Wasabi & Dill mayonnaise that I will have to think of a recipe to incorporate (suggestions welcome) and some Shiraz seeded mustard that I know J will love.

After a couple of hours walking around this wonderful market we made a visit to the Ginger factory which was close by. This place has every imaginable food that contains ginger and even some that you would not imagine containing ginger. I picked up a gingerbread man treat for J and some ginger and macadamia cookies for home in case any visitors come a calling.

Now what excuse can I make to go back up to Queensland to visit the Eumundi markets again ?

Hi!
It's the first time I post here but when I read "wasabi-dill mayonnaise" I thought it would be delicious with raw salmon, in a salad or sandwich.
O dear, I'm hungry now!
