The good, the bad and the ugly

Ok so, I’m not sure if the point of a blog is to write about all your culinary efforts – good or bad. I was very tempted to give this weeks post a miss and pretend I didn’t get up to any baking. But, if the truth be known, I made Cherry Clafoutis last night and it was a disaster. Not a complete disaster mind you, just a visual disaster, but who wants to eat a cake that doesn’t look good. It defeats the whole purpose. Even a sprinkling of icing sugar didn’t improve the appearance.

I had such high hopes for this cake. I even went in search of some decent cherries to make it with. It was my first effort from the Michel Roux cookbook called Eggs. I’m pretty sure I followed the recipe exactly but let’s just say my effort looks a far cry from the lovely Cherry Clafoutis pictured in the book.

In my opinion there was too much butter in the recipe. I’m not one to give up without a fight though, so I am going to go in search of another recipe for Clafoutis and try again. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

The cake didn’t go to waste. I handed it out to the guys in work. I told them a few minutes in the microwave would do it the world of good. The reports back were good but then they were probably just being polite.

Bea of La Tartine Gourmand just posted not too long ago about clafoutis, she made both a strawberry and a cherry one. It might be a good idea to check her's out and her photos are great too.

I appreciate it when blogs show their failures or disappointments as well as their successes. It helps me know that I'm not the only one to which these things happen. Thanks for sharing! wendy
